We (14 of us) have just returned from a really, really, really fantastic weekend away in Pringle Bay thanks to Carmen, our teacher and chef from the Creative Classroom. Many of us spent the weekend in accommodation provided by Carmen which was light, lovely and fresh. It is extremely reasonably priced and suited our needs to a "T". Having said all of that lets get on to the foraging and the six course meal for lunch. The beaches you walk on are magnificent...Carmen is so knowledgeable about mussels, seaweeds ( of numerous varieties) and Fynbos - it was great to learn so much from her! ...When we returned from foraging on the beach we learnt how you dry seaweed to make a snack followed with a fynbos vodka shot ...How to pickle seaweed and how to braai with seaweed ...Carmen cooked a lot more - it was a fabulous feast ... Carmen is a fantastic person and she and her staff go completely out of their way to make the entire event unforgettable!
I can highly recommend this experience to everyone who loves the sea and our Fynbos. We ended our afternoon with the most incredible swim on Pringle Bay Beach - the water was warm, the waves were beautiful ....Will never forget that swim ...In conclusion if you are considering learning to forage for food on our amazing SA coastline - this is the experience for you!
